J proved to be as challenging as F. For a while I was toying with writing about Jerusalem, since that is a city with a lot of mysteries.
Also looked a bit into the lost years of Jesus – when he was supposed to be in India.
In the end found this wikipedia entry on Japanese Paleolithic period.
The Jōmon period is the time in Japanese prehistory from about 14,000 BC to 300 BC.
The Jomon created the oldest pottery vessels in the world.

When I started to write about Indus Valley Civilization, my knowledge about it was the same as majority of the people, that is “the Aryan Invasion Theory”.
This was news to me – Brahui which is a Dravidian language is spoken in modern Pakistan, and similar Dravidian languages like Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam are still spoken in South India.
It has often been pointed out that the complete absence of the horse among the animals so prominently featured on the Indus seals is good evidence for the non-Aryan character of the Indus Civilization.
Who knew the absence of a horse could be so controversial!
A major difference the Indus Valley Civilization has with the other cultures is the complete lack of any type of army – seems like a really peaceful bunch.
Also they were really big on sanitation, each private home had their own baths and the whole city had sophisticated drainage system. Check out the amazing pictures!
Searching for an ancient mystery on “H”, I came across the Hypogeum in Malta. And this is the first mystery in my series, that is listed in the UNESCO world Heritage List.
Also a good write-up in wikipedia.
The Hal Saflieni Hypogeum is the only prehistoric underground temple in the world. It was discovered by accident in 1902 when workers cutting cisterns for a new housing development broke through its roof. The workers tried to hide the temple at first, but eventually it was found.
The Grooved Spheres is a very controversial object. I found it in the 10 more unsolved mysteries of the world.
Over the last few decades, miners in South Africa have been digging up mysterious metal spheres. Origin unknown, these spheres measure approximately an inch or so in diameter, and some are etched with three parallel grooves running around the equator. Two types of spheres have been found: one is composed of a solid bluish metal with flecks of white; the other is hollowed out and filled with a spongy white substance. The kicker is that the rock in which they were found is Precambrian – and dated to 2.8 billion years old! Who made them and for what purpose is unknown.
I checked out what is Precambrian – it is the timeframe from around 4600 Ma to about 542 Ma. I also learned Ma stands for megaannum, a unit of time equal to one million (106) years.
Here is a website which gives a really good analysis of the Grooved Spheres (among other artifacts). After reading this article, I voted Not Sure, what do you think?
I searched high and low for an ancient mystery on F, came up really short. So I settled on Filfla. The small island of Filfla was part of the bigger Maltese archipelago around 17,000 years ago. Currently there is a submerged ridge that runs from the nearby Hamjira of Malta, beneath another archeological site Mnajrda all the way to Filfla. On either side the the bootom drops offf to twice the depth at the highest point. Similar to the Cambay ruins, there are submerged stone structures around the Filfla island. More details to follow at a leter date
